A statement from Bulgarian Council of Ministers released after the meeting of Prime Minister Boyko Borisov with Azeri President Ilham Aliyev said that State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) has expressed interest in investing in Bulgaria’s natural gas transmission network.
PM Borisov said that only 3 % of Bulgaria’s territory has access to natural gas, while the air is heavily polluted due to the usage of solid fuels for heating, therefore, the country has set an ambitious goal to expand the utilization of materials for heating which do not lead to air pollution. President Aliyev said that Azerbaijan has already invested successfully in the development of gas infrastructure in Georgia and can offer its experience and good practices to Bulgaria, adding that Azerbaijan and Bulgaria are strategic partners in the realization of the Southern Gas Corridor project which will guarantee Europe’s energy security.
