According to Austrian media, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Austrian Chancellor Christian Kern have discussed the issue of reviving a gas pipeline project through the Black Sea, connecting Russia to central and southeastern Europe, at the International Economic Forum in St. Petersburg last week.
Austrian OMV Group and Russian gas company Gazprom have already signed an outline deal to coordinate the development of the gas transmission infrastructure required for providing natural gas supplies to central and southeastern Europe. If realized, this project would significantly increase the importance of OMV’s Baumgarten gas hub, which distributes about 57 billion cubic meters of gas per year.
