Turkish Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK) has issued an electricity generation license to Akkuyu Nuclear JSC for a period of 49 years, starting on 15 June 2017, following a preliminary three-year license issued previously.
EPDK said in a statement that the company has fulfilled its responsibilities in the three-year period, thus a new, 49-years license was issued. Although the first unit of NPP Akkuyu was planned to become operational in 2025, Akkuyu Nuclear JSC announced that it will start generating electricity on 29 October 2023, on the centennial anniversary of the Turkish Republic.
