According to Montenegrin Regulatory Agency for Energy (RAE), state-owned power utility EPCG, unlike other electricity suppliers, has been positioned close to its customer base for years already, which could prove as an advantage in early market liberalization stages.
RAE representatives reminded that electricity market in Montenegro has been liberalized as of 1 January 2009 for all consumers, except households, while that category of consumers obtained the right to choose their own supplier in 2015. In mid-2016, the operator of the distribution system CEDIS has been established, which finally ensures a non-discriminatory access to the distribution network.
