According to the data from Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO, the gross electricity production in the country grew by 3.47 % since the beginning of 2017, until 19 February, reaching a total of 7,466.7 GWh. Electricity production in the same period last year amounted to 7,219.3 GWh.
Since 9 February, electricity exports have started to recover from a 80 % slump, after the Bulgarian authorities lifted a ban on exports, which lasted since 13 January and had to be introduced due to a cold spell that led to spikes in consumption. Nevertheless, electricity export have decreased by 68.8 % since the beginning of the year, compared to the same period in 2016, with a total of 247.4 GWh of electricity exported until 19 February.
