The Chief of the Cabinet of the Hungarian Government Janos Lazar said that the European Commission (EC) will take Hungary to court over regulated energy prices. According to him, EC wants to leave price regulation up to companies, while the Government believes that the state should decide on energy price regulation.
In December 2016, The European Commission (EC) has sent a reasoned opinion to the Hungarian Government in which it requests that Hungary ensure correct implementation and application of directives related to electricity and gas, the internal market and simple pressure vessels.
