According to the data published by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Turkey has commissioned 5,840 MW of new installed capacity in 2017 with an investment of some 6.2 billion dollars.
The largest investment was made in gas-fired and coal-fired power plants. Natural gas combined cycle power plants with installed capacity of 2,621 MW were installed in 2017, while investments in these facilities were approximately 2.23 billion dollars. Additional 1.56 billion dollars was also made in 320 MW thermal power plant that runs on imported coal.
