According to the data from Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO, Bulgarian power plants produced 45.3 TWh of electricity in 2017, which is slightly higher (0.63 %) compared to 2016.
On the other hand, electricity consumption rose by 3 % in 2017, reaching 39.8 TWh. The trend of electricity consumption surpassing production was particularly observed in the last few months of the year, due to a decline in electricity exports, which fell by significant 14 % to 5.5 TWh in 2017. The introduction of electricity export ban from mid-January to mid-February also decreased the amount of exported electricity.
